Raw makgeolli, or Nongju or Takju, is a traditional Korean alcoholic beverage made from fermented rice and wheat. It has a milky, off-white colour and a sweet flavour. Rich in lactobacilli, it promotes healthy digestion. Once favoured by farmers, it is now popular with younger generations in urban areas. However, its natural fermentation gives it a shorter shelf life, making it less suitable for long-term storage compared to processed versions.
